Huzzah! MEME!!

Stolen from vulpine137

They say everybody writes a journal with the hope that someday somebody will read it. I think most people in the explicitly-public LJ-land list interests in the hope that someday somebody will ask about them. This meme, like a dating service, turns all that hoping-somebody-will-ask into a straightforward request. Viva communication!

Explicitly request it in a comment below and I will choose 7 of your LJ profile interests for you to explain/write about. (Post a link for me once you do!)

The following were picked for me:

abductees, bondage faeries, chow yun-fat, flem, kung- fool, oral sex, weeda weeda woo

abductees — this started with a lady Vulps and I both know katherine. She was literally frightened of UFO’s, grays, and all phenomenon associated to it. I used to love to watch shows (think Fire in the Sky) that documented it.

bondage fairies — because there is nothing more amusing than thinking of Tinker Bell, all decked out in black vinyl.
“You know what I am, Peter? I’m your worst fucking nightmare. I’m a fairy with a whip!”

chow yun-fat — cause that man can *move*. I am a long time fan of the martial art movie.

flemThis sick bastard.

kung-fool — now mostly defunct webcomic, Kung Fool. It was great silly fun.

oral sex — well, duh. I am still an Oral Artiste.

weeda weeda woo — vodka induced phrase coined on Two Lumps. “I am the captain of teh carpet ship!!” In the way that many fine quotes are hijacked by the Tam and I; it has become a phrase to indicate “I believe I have drunk far, far too much and must needs cling to the blades of grass so as to keep my prone body from being flung off the earth by the forces of planet rotation.”

      1. He is, he is. 🙂

Your list. Some I know *what* they are, some I don’t. The ones that I know what they are, what is your fascination with them?

        i thought u ♥ me > qweerdo
        quiddity
        brujah
        clive barker
        thunderstorms
        lord byron
        digital blasphemy

      2. I’m not sure if the ones you know what they are is different than the 7 listed. If so, which ones specifically?

        1. I thought u qweedo : An inside joke about one of our Brutal Honesty/SF members, the specifics of which I can’t even remember anymore. Someone got butthurt about Jimmy/Qweerdo being liked better, and then everyone had that for an interest.

        2. Quiddity – its the dream sea thats on another plane of existence, a higher level of existence, in Clive Barker’s The Great & Secret Show and Everville. In one book it sounds peaceful, in the next its kind of horrible and scary .
        3. Brujah – I think we go through vampire phases, and at one time I got into this vampire game called Jyhad while I was in the Navy, and the Brujah were the physically strong/punk/rebellious clan of vampires. If Mike Ness of Social Distortion were a vampire he’d be a Brujah :).

        4. Clive Barker – damn awesome horror writer (and a bit off genre too). He makes Stephen King look like an amateur. Has this collection of books titled “The Books of Blood” that just send cringes down my spine.

        5. Thunderstorms – I love thunderstorms. The more wicked, the more dark and menacing, the better. The lightning dancing across the sky, the sudden cracks that make you jump out of your seat. I could sit on my porch for hours and just be entertained, but we don’t get them that badly here in Austin (or when they come they’re at night)

        6. Lord Byron – “she walks in beauty, like the night, of cloudless climes and starry skies”. Lord Byron seems like a pretty cool guy – writes good poetry, physical deformation (club foot) yet very athletic, (once swam English Channel), known for being very passionate and fond of the ladies (our English teacher once said there is a claim that he slept with 200 different women on consecutive nights – I suspect, as Ive never seen that repeated, that she did that just to get us interested in him), forced away from his home to avoid censure by his government, and a military man at the end.

        7. Digital blasphemy is digitalblasphemy.com , which for the years I’ve been turned on to the website, has had killer digital artwork, the likes of many that have become my desktop.

      3. Very, very cool. :O)

Had NO clue: i thought u ♥ me > qweerdo and digital blasphemy

Could’ve been the gamer or magic version: brujah

The rest I pretty much knew but wondered what made them cool to *you*.

    1. He is such a graceful human being. 🙂

As I saw saying to , I know what some of these are – some I don’t. Mostly, I want to know what makes your eyes sparkle about these:

      django
      tribal bellydance
      ice weasels
      tequila
      anthony bourdain
      arts and crafts era
      hooping

      1. abnormal psychology – I am crazy and I love learning about people crazier than me.

rhea’s obsession – a really awesome industrial band from Canada.

tegan and sara- I can’t even remember when I found out about these two. I think it was from my transgendered friend Anthony, who is into bright happy pop music. I save T&S’s stuff for special occasions.

writing – I love to write (pretty self-explanatory, I think). I have a “novel” that’s been in the works for 4 years that only comprises about 50 pages. I haven’t actually written anything in months. LAME.

brechtian punk cabaret – the self-professed genre of one of my favorite bands, The Dresden Dolls.

percussion – I love it and I wish I had musical talent so I could play it. I think my favorite instrument is the timpani.

dogmen – here’s an interesting one. A dogman is usually considered to be a professional dog-fighter, from the “good old days” when it was still a legal “gentleman’s sport.” These are fellows that took care of their dogs and would do anything to keep a dog from dying. Dogmen were very much about “honor” as opposed to the gambling aspect. Not to be confused with today’s inner-city thug dog fighters, who show no compassion for their “athletes” (as the dogs are sometimes called) and who are only in it for drugs, money, and perhaps taking out rival gangs. I have pretty controversial opinions on dog-fighting, as you can probably see.

  1. Oh, sure. In fact, I updated my list so there’d be more to choose from. (Granted: Most of them are geeky. C’est la vie.)

Chow Yun-Fat: I maintain that nobody would’ve given a damn about or long remembered Bulletproof Monk were it not for this guy making it, in parts, totally awesome. “Mah fweaky azz” indeed. *grin*

Oral Sex: As a red-blooded typical American heterosexual male, I… have nothing gentlemanly to say to this. *bigger grin*

      1. “Wile E. Coyote: Suuuuuper geeeeeeniusss!” The advent of the talking Road Runner cartoons heralded much that was lame about the later WB cartoons, but that one line almost makes the whole mess worthwhile…

        Anyway!

Relationships: I look at the world in terms of how things connect to one another, especially people. This is how I can easily grasp the value and role of each given department in the company I work for because I instantly grok how they mesh together. On a personal level, I prize the relationships I’ve forged over the last half-dozen years as well as my much-improved relationships with my kids.

Card Games: Sort of part-and-parcel with the “board games” interest, weekend gaming sessions are likely to involve Quiddler or Fluxx or Munchkin (not my fave, actually) or some other game entirely.

Comfort Foods: Life’s too short to eat bland food. I’m not into pizza as much anymore (same with most red-sauce-based foods) but I love hot cocoa (which earned its own spot on my interests list) and pasta alfredo and chicken parmigana (consistency is the defense of a small mind) and somehow this past year I became addicted to Chipotle’s steak burritos. And so on. *grin*

Snarky Women: The best kind. ‘Nuff said.

Eyecandy: I’m a visual sort of fellow, so this includes not just the usual (pretty women, cool-looking gadgets/vehicles) but also a stunning sunrise, flowing water (I can’t swim but I love touching and seeing and hearing it), trees (I love trees) and… I could go on but you get the idea. “Ooooh, pretty!”

City of Heroes: Sure, it’s a timesink that costs fifteen bucks (per account: mine, primary girlfriend’s, kids’) but there’s something about running around with flashy superpowers and silly costumes that appeals to me. What can I say?

Anime: I like animation in general, and the storytelling verve you get from those crazy Japanese folks means a wide variety of interesting stuff, from school romances to space opera to magical girls to giant robots and genres I don’t have names for right off the top of my head.

        How’s that?

      2. That’s pretty nifty! Honestly, I think you and I are twins separated at birth. 😉 I hear you on all these.

Card Games: spades, hearts, hand and foot, gin, gin rummy, canasta, rook, uno, pinochle….

        City of Heroes: Victory

        😀

      3. Hey, cool! I thought I was being too geeky and out-there, myself. High five! And hey, at least we have more in common than my actual sister and I do. *wry grin*

Growing up, I played a lot of Hearts and later when living with Dad we spent many weekends playing Pinochle with his girlfriend and my sister (once she moved down to Portland as well… long long story there). I rarely play with “regular” cards anymore, though. Hmm…

Protector! Yeah, we’re weirdos… but there’s no way I’m schlepping all those toons to another server, no matter how many people I meet that are on one of the Big Two.

      1. mysticism – Mysticism is the search for the divine without reliance on established authorities. When Jesus said “No one approaches the Father but through me.”, I took that to mean “You may search and follow your own road but in the end you will find my footsteps were there first” as opposed to “worship me or go to hell.”

crossroads of thought – We are becoming a culture of specialists. The interesting stuff lies in the grey areas where different domains intersect. This stuff gets overlooked.

        gamers – What can I say? i’m a lifelong D&D addict

madness – Take crossroads of thought, add mysticism, throw in the heisenberg uncertainty principle and soon you will be off the map. Here lies places most minds dare not explore.

heisenberg uncertainty principle – This is the loophole in the laws of physics. It’s not just an issue of measurement and perception, the universe itself has a finite granularity. It’s within here that magic resides.

crossroads of thought – We’ve been here before.

23 – Did you know that God’s name is Eris and that he’s a girl?

      2. oops, I doubled one on you. Its like a 68. I now owe you one.

        Ahhh, Discordian?

I will look up the uncertainty principle. That’s a compelling thought.

        for your seventh…progressivism?

      3. Yes, Discordian, but in truth I prefer the creative side of chaos. Eris just opened the door for me.

Progressivism – Political labels have little meaning anymore but once upon a time, they did. Progressives stand to the left of liberals. We’re like liberals but with a spine.

    1. drunken scrabble
      priests
      serge lutens
      that guy over there
      setting things on fire
      showering in the dark
      snow

I need a Cat icon so that whenever you reply, I can yell “FISH!” ;>

PS….can you come and play tonight? Hmm, hmm?

      1. Re: 🙂

japanese gardens: the faintly babbling brooks and koi ponds, the japanese maples, the perfectly placed greenery, the zen gardens, the peace and solitude; the minimalism of it all scream SEX!

unified field theory: oddly, the first I heard of this was on a random tv program in the distant past, not in physics class. UFT is Everything In The Universe We Haven’t Explained Through Science/Physics. It’s there that I found the freedom of religion, to shed all the dogma I’d been brought up to follow, and the room to believe what I want about how the Universe works.

socratic questioning: the method Socrates used to ask questions to get to the root of an issue. I didn’t realize I’d been doing this for years, without formal training.

billiards: way fun, great way to spend time with someone and get to know them better and to steal a kiss or three.

parapsychology: I’ve seen a ghost. I experienced psychic connections and leaps of intuition.

sapiosexuality: It’s about the kind of person who turns me on. does have the best definition in his profile – he invented the word. ‘I want an incisive, inquisitive, insightful, irreverent mind. I want someone for whom philosophical discussion is foreplay. I want someone who sometimes makes me go ouch due to their wit and evil sense of humor. I want someone that I can reach out and touch randomly. I want someone I can cuddle with.’ Essentially, “You can only fuck someone for so long (5-8 hours is finite) but you can talk forever.”

calculated risks: I’m a daredevil. I nudge at the limits, but I don’t wanna get hurt, so…

    1. d&d
      bad girls
      killing zombies
      the dark
      imported beer
      shiny things
      arthurian legends

There is an interest missing from your list, raist. 😦 There is no badger on your list.

      *sob*

      1. Badger gets the upgrade to being a user-pic.

Side-note – Some time, you simply MUST youtube the word badger. F’n amazing little devils.

      2. d&d – I’ve been a gamer for about fifteen years now. Probably a bit more. D&D was the first game I ever played. It was only one session, and it was AD&D. I didn’t have my own dice, or any books of my own. I’m pretty sure we fouled the rules up pretty badly, but it started a fascination and life-changing hobby for me. Almost all of the people who are family of my choosing I’ve met through gaming. Our Sunday group. Some old roommates. Tons and tons of laughter. The hobby that D&D brought me into has broadened my life for the better in so many ways. It’s an outlet for my imagination, my frustration, my sense of humor, and a chance to spend time with those I love.

bad girls – I wouldn’t think this one would require an explanation. There’s just something about a chick that acts kind of naughty. I married one that’s just awesome. She seems kind of tame to most, but I’ve seen a side of her that makes me drool. The look she shows only to me when she’s feeling spicy. The stories and fun side of her, that she denies exists, but I know is still there. … 🙂

killing zombies – Seriously. You don’t have to feel guilty for killing a zombie. They’re already dead.

the dark – More properly, this should have been, The Dark. Read up on Nightbane for more information. Basically, it’s that supernatural force that is behind the Nightlords and their minions. (See also: GM, Rob, Raist, and That Guy Who Always Laughs Evilly)

imported beer – I’m VERY picky about my beer. When I was stationed in Germany I found several beers that I actually enjoyed the TASTE of, and that’s a rare thing here in the states. Shiner is ok. But still only a marginal beer at best. My favorite is a nice smooth Hefe Weissen ( http://www.reference.com/browse/Hefe+weizen )& beer that was made by a local brewery near Kaiserslautern. I’ve found a few that I like here, but it’s just not the same. As far as American “import” beers, about the best I’ve found is Harp. It’s made by the same company that makes Heinekin (sp?) I think, but just like Heinekin, its the recipe that’s imported, not the beer itself. Adn the recipe has been adjusted to make it into more of an American beer, only less watered down.

shiny things – Who doesn’t like shiny things? Most people have something shiny that they love. A lot of women like jewelry. Men like cars, guns, etc… Me. I like dice, swords and other midevil weaponry, electronics, gaming books (the covers are laminated to some degree giving them a shine), tools, leather, and Coleen’s hair… amongst other things of Coleen’s. So… I like shiny things. Don’t we all?

arthurian legends – A lot of who I am, and what I like to read come from Arthurian legends that I read when I was a kid. The first books I ever read and enjoyed were C.S. Lewis’s “Chronicles of Narnia”. Once I got done looking for fantasy worlds in every cupboard I could find, I started reading fantasy extensively. First stop was the area in the school library that had legends about King Arthur. They impressed me with a few things on how humans should treat one another. A man should treat a woman with a certain level of chivalry. Not because he is better than her in any way, but to show his grattitude for the ispiration, love, and joy she brings to him. Children should be nurtured with love, understanding, and occasionally a firm hand, because they are our future, and if we don’t raise them right, the world is screwed. Arthur was raised in a home with a firm hand, and Merlin nurtured him, giving rise to a truly stupendous man. Meanwhile, Arthur’s son by his own sister was raised to be a hateful and nasty individual, which in turn tore a kingdom apart. It’s an analogy that I think reflects truth in life. There are a million more things to be learned from the legends of Arthur. Including the hope that one man can bring to so many.
