I think you mean thermometer instead of thermostat. It is quite likely that where you car’s thermometer is it really was 42 degrees instead of the 37 stated by the weather channel. Wait until it gets colder and see if it is still stuck on the magic number.
Sometimes warm air from the engine while you’re driving may throw that off a little too, depending on where the sensor is. Not all of them are placed as well as they might be.
