Sometime soon (next day or two) I am supposed to go in and take my “C-Test” for English. I must pass the test otherwise – and in spite of how good my grades during the class are – I will fail the course.
See icon.
Other than that, things are actually getting better*. I -did- get fairly well bent over by the mechanics. Xmas will be slim. I am hoping that all and sundry are good with cookies, 🙂
I -do- make a mean cookie, though.
My plans for today are to shelve books**, do some Xmas cards, make garlicky chicken soup and pine for my kidlet as it’s her Dad’s weekend with her. –piiiiinnneee–
* – and that I seem to be coming down with or fighting off a cold.
** – D was laughing at me last night. Apparently, nobody else sorts books into Fiction/Non-Fiction, Resource/Reference, Anthologies and then alphabetizes the lot. I just like knowing what I am looking at when I need a book.
Why is it called a C-Test?
“See? Test.”
—piiiiiiiinnnnnneeeeee—
I have -no- idea. I’d say its the average grade except that there IS no grade. Its either “pass” or “rejected”.
What are you pining for, doll?
That sort of thing is really fucking scary. Good luck
What are you pining for, doll?
You, of course! 😀
Eh, I missed you guys last night. But, I was feeling to punky to go anywhere.

No, they don’t. If they’re sensible, they organize the non-fiction by topic, using an existing system, such as Dewey Decimal or Library of Congress.
(I have fiction alphabetized by author’s last name, followed by anthologies alphabetized by editor’s last name, followed by non-fiction on LoC system. Art books are separate, though, and kids’ fiction is separate, again alphabetized by author’s last name. But I try to shelve series in order, not alphabetizing by title.)
Too complex. If I have it sorted into reference type then alpha’d, then that’s groovy by me.
OTOH, if its a series – then yes, its sorted into (the book’s) chronological order.

Mine aren’t quite that organized, but they are definitely separated out by topic. IT reference, historical reference, cooking reference, fiction. Series of course go together… that’s about it though. I have enough of each ‘section’ though that they take up entire bookshelves, not just shelves. Which makes it easy to find as well generally 🙂 I just have to be in the right room!
We broke down and bought bookcases – just two though, right? Not. Nearly. Enough. Not even for the fiction works. That gets me to… *checks* Koontz. I’ve got many more alphabetical authors, anthologies and series to shelve as well.
Which means that all the rest of my books are organized into (neatish) piles all over the office floor.
I don’t always remember the title, but I’ll remember the type/shape of the book
My Bookcase:
On top: research papers in magazine holders, organized by class/topic (but I don’t really have the classes themselves organized yet which means going through both stacks pretty often when I’m trying to find something specific), borrowed books, and some misc books that I’m not sure about keeping/reading
Top shelf: non-fiction paperbacks, sorted by size, versus alphabetical, so that the books go from tallest to shortest
Second shelf: Oversized picture books, writing/journal books, and small/odd-sized books
Third shelf: non-fiction hardbacks, again sorted by size
Fourth shelf: general reference books grouped by topic (Scientology, Christianity, calculator manuals, cooking/fondue recipe books), school books and spiral notebooks with class notes, with all of the spirals grouped together
Fifth shelf: a TIME-LIFE book series on computers, vampire gaming/reference books, puzzle books, Titanic books, remaining misc over-sized books
I now have an insane urge to come and browse your library. It sounds as if it is full of tasty treats!
Coleen sorts books on that level. Though, fiction and reference are the only categories, then they’re sorted alphabetically by author. You are not alone in your retentiveness.
I would if I had as many books as you. 🙂 I separate into type – greenbuilding books, comic book anthologies, self-help and related, professional, etc. But because they all currently fit in 1 bookcase, I don’t have to alphabetize.
See reply to above. Two cases got me part of the way there. At least you can now navigate the office without too much danger of ankle-breakage.
Oh. And good luck on the test. You’re a genius IMO, so there should be nothing to stress about.
Thank you, doll. (Now I wish I had a Wyle E. Coyote icon, 🙂
That was a challenge!
I heard it plainly.
